Movement ABC Assessment

Movement ABC - Movement Impairment Diagnostic Assessment

 

  • A standardized tool used by professionals  to identify, describe, and guide treatment for motor difficulties (fine and gross motor skills) in children and young adults, helping to diagnose movement impairment by assessing balance, aiming, catching, and manual dexterity. The Movement ABC-3, covers ages 3 to 25 to understand how motor challenges affect daily life by assessing severity. 

 

What it assesses

  • Manual Dexterity: Fine motor skills (e.g., handwriting, using scissors).
  • Aiming & Catching: Hand-eye coordination.
  • Balance: Gross motor skills (e.g., standing on one leg, hopping).

  • Test & Checklist: Combines direct tasks with a checklist for parents/teachers to report on everyday difficulties.
  • Age Bands: Structured for different age groups (e.g., 3-6, 7-10, 11-16) and extended in the newest version.
  • Traffic Light System: Scores categorize performance (Green: no issues, Amber: monitor/assess, Red: likely difficulties 

 

  • Test & Checklist: Combines direct tasks with a checklist for parents/teachers to report on everyday difficulties.
  • Age Bands: Structured for different age groups (e.g., 3-6, 7-10, 11-16) and extended in the newest version.
  • Traffic Light System: Scores categorize performance (Green: no issues, Amber: monitor/assess, Red: likely difficulties needing intervention).
  • Holistic View: Considers non-motor factors like concentration or motivation that might affect performance

We recommend contacting to discuss individual needs and to book. Assessment typically takes 90 mins. This may be broken over 2-3 sessions dependent on age and needs.
